The Writing Process/Building Blocks of Good Writing

Students can find a detailed break down of the writing process located on pages R32-R35 in their McDougal Littell Text Book. Students can also look at the building blocks of good writing located on pages R36-R40.

Students are encouraged to read and apply what they have read to their research essays.

Writing a Thesis Statement

A thesis statement in a research report defines the main idea, or overall purpose, of your report. A clear one sentence answer to your main question will result in a good thesis statement.

Homework 1/7-1/10

All students are given the opportunity to either correct their research essays or complete them and turn them in by Tuesday/Wednesday of next week. This will be your last opportunity to complete and turn in your vacation homework. I strongly urge all students to complete this essay.

Classwork 1/7/08-1/10/08

All Language Arts Students must complete lesson 21 in their Measuring Up text book. This assignment covers 6 of the areas that you will be tested on in a few weeks. Students must complete the revising assignment(Explain Why California Ia An Important State)on pages 176-178. After completing the writing assignment please read "Why the Honor Code Matters" on page 179 and answer all the questions on page 180 after completing this activity please continue and read "A Great Hobby" on page 181 and answer all the questions on pages 182-183.

Classwork 1/7/08

Language Arts Students: All language arts students will focus on Lesson 21 in the measuring up text. On pages 175-183 students will focus on CAS WS 8.1.6. this standard focuses on revising skills. On page 175 students are asked to copy down these four questions: Does organization match my purpose? Does one idea follow the other logically? Should I rearrange the ideas to make them flow more smoothly? Are all the ideas on the topic? Should any information be cut because it is off topic?
